Black Panther's Wakanda will play an important role in dealing with the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo say. Officially introduced earlier this year in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, the once secluded nation had been teased in the MCU since 2010's Iron Man 2.

The backdrop of one of the two biggest action set pieces in Avengers 3 (the other one was Titan), Wakanda was also where Thanos first set foot on Earth before executing his snap that left half of the universe's life forms dead. And while fans still don't know much about what lies ahead in the MCU following the events of Infinity War, they can expect that Wakanda will play a huge role in the future of the franchise whatever the case may be.

During a video appearance hosted by Wired in celebration of Infinity War's arrival on Blu-ray, the Russo brothers talked about every single character that appeared in the film including Black Panther and the role Wakanda is going to play in the MCU after the galactic genocide. Joe, in particular, shared that the nation will be pivotal in helping the world deal with the consequences of Thanos' deadly snap:

"Black Panther has tremendous potential as a character in the Marvel Universe, and I think Wakanda is essential to whatever may happen post-Avengers: Infinity War... how the world may deal with what is happening to them... The technology that Wakanda has at its disposal is valuable in repairing the world moving forward."

There are two ways to interpret the Russos' comment. First, it might mean that Wakanda, along with the whole Black Panther franchise, will be pivotal in the MCU moving forward coming into Phase 4; second, the South African nation may be intrinsic in how the Avengers will bounce back from the events of Infinity War in Avengers 4. The former is already a given considering how T'Challa's origin story ended with the country opening up its borders, not to mention the subseries' blockbuster potential as proven by the character's first standalone film which racked more than $1 billion worldwide ($700 million domestically). The latter, on the other hand, is a little bit more interesting given that it provides a clue as to what people can expect in the Phase 3 capper.

It's not difficult to imagine that Wakanda will be essential in Avengers 4 considering that most of the surviving heroes were in the kingdom after Thanos' snap. And with the country already outing itself in the world, it would make sense that it will offer any help they can give to other nations that were greatly affected by the genocide. What's going to be interesting, however, is how the nation will function without its king. Both Queen Ramonda and Shuri survived the mass murder, so does that mean that either one of them will be the honorary leader of the country until T'Challa is back? With Wakanda's advanced technology, it would be great to see MCU geniuses like Tony Stark, Bruce Banner and Shuri all come together to find a possible way to restore order on Earth following Thanos' genocide.
