Colin Farrell leads a chaotic space mission in the trailer for Voyagers. The sci-fi movie is set in the near future, chronicling the journey of 30 young men and women that are sent deep into space on a multi-generational quest in search of a new home. Under the guidance of Farrell’s character, however, the situation takes a sharp turn.

Lionsgate Movies has released a trailer for Voyagers that delivers a heavy dose of neon, beginning optimistically as the characters experiment with the mysterious substance known as “blue.” Before long, however, the euphoria turns dangerous. The crew finds themselves descending into madness and resorting to their most primal impulses. In the process, they discover more about themselves. You can check out the trailer below.

Written and directed by Neil Burger, who helmed Limitless and The Illusionist, the film also stars Lily-Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead, Viveik Kalra, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Quintessa Swindell, and Chanté Adams. Voyagers was originally meant to be released in November 2020 before being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the movie will hit theaters and IMAX on April 9. The Voyagers trailer definitely hints at an ambitious, provocative film. Though Burger is no stranger to a hectic, adrenaline-pumping tone, which he delivered with Limitless, it remains to be seen if he can make a frenetic pace work for a film set in outer space.

The synopsis for Voyagers reads:

With the future of the human race at stake, a group of young men and women, bred for intelligence and obedience, embark on an expedition to colonize a distant planet. But when they uncover disturbing secrets about the mission, they defy their training and begin to explore their most primitive natures. As life on the ship descends into chaos, they’re consumed by fear, lust, and the insatiable hunger for power.
