US network NBC is making a TV miniseries based on the cult 1967 Ira Levin novel Rosemary's Baby which was made into a film in 1968 by director Roman Polanski.

Production will start on the four hour long series in Paris in January 2014, writes the Hollywood Reporter. Speaking about the new project, Quinn Taylor of NBC commented: "Ira Levin's mesmerizing book was a groundbreaking reflection on how effective and influential a psychological thriller could be. We're looking forward to adapting his incredible work and bringing those indelible characters to a new generation of viewers." Casting is set to start immediately and whilst no actors for the project have been revealed as of yet, the series will be directed by Agnieszka Holland (Europa, Europa, Treme).

NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke added of the forthcoming series: "As we move into the event movie and miniseries space, Rosemary's Baby represents the kind of attention-getting, surprising project that will make noise for us. The story has been updated and moved to Paris, but it's faithful to the spirit of Ira Levin's classic novel. This is a compelling tale wonderfully told."

The original book and film were set in Manhattan, New York. The Mia Farrow-starring film version was shot in and around the The Dakota building near Central Park, which later was to be the home of The Beatles' John Lennon and also the site of his murder in 1980.
