The Marvel cast and crew image making the rounds online isn't an indication that Taika Waititi's Korg will appear in Avengers 4. Debuting in last year's Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Thunder met the soft-spoken Kronan on Sakaar before he went on to battle the Hulk. Following the successful revolution on the junk planet that led to the ousting of the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), Korg helped Thor save the Asgardians from Hela (Cate Blanchett) who had taken over Asgard. By the end of the threequel, he, alongside his buddy, Miek, were aboard the Asgardian ship that was en route to Earth.

By playing Korg, Watiti joined the ranks of Jon Favreau as a Marvel director who also stars in his movie. This is why, even if he no longer has any directing commitment with Marvel Studios, he will remain involved in the MCU as a cast member. And a brand new photo floating around the internet is giving people hope that he may be gearing up to play Korg again.

A recent Instagram post from Karen Gillan has sparked rumors that Waititi will reprise his role as Korg in Avengers 4. The image features a handful of Marvel Studios cast and crew such as Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Pom Klementieff, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, producer Trinh Tran, and Avengers 4 co-director Joe Russo. Considering most of the actors in the photo are confirmed to appear in next year's still-untitled movie, not to mention Gillan was providing reshoot updates just a couple of days ago, it's understandable that many are taking it as an indication that Waititi (as well as Marisa Tomei who plays Aunt May) is back on the set as the fan-favorite character. However, that's not exactly the case.

The image was taken at the opening of Joe's brand new restaurant, Simone, in downtown Los Angeles as reported by Variety and wasn't in Atlanta where reshoots for Avengers 4 are currently taking place, which many are assuming. Additionally, the event wasn't only attended by Marvel people, Community stars such as Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, and Yvette Nicole Brown were also in attendance. It's entirely possible that Waititi, who was recently at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to host a Masterclass, made a pit stop in L.A. to attend his fellow Marvel director's party. Joe and his brother and co-director Anthony (who was noticeably absent) have been open about working closely with the New Zealand director to ensure that Avengers: Infinity War correctly depicted Thor after his significant evolution in Ragnarok. Aside from Waititi, MCU's pioneering director Favreau was also at the event.

Having said all that, this doesn't mean that Korg won't make an appearance in Avengers 4. While his fate has not been confirmed, it's safe to say that he snuck away using the escape pods along with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and other Asgardians before the refugee ship was hijacked by Thanos and his minions at the start of Infinity War. Additionally, future movies featuring him and Miek are already being lined up according to Feige. However he makes his MCU re-entry, one thing is for sure: Fans will be nothing but thrilled to see him return and the buzz generated by this photo supposedly teasing his comeback is proof of that.
