Akiva Goldsman has signed on to lead "writer's rooms" for the forthcoming G.I. Joe and Micronauts movies. The experiment worked well enough in expanding the Transformers' movie universe, and Hasbro and Paramount hope to create the same success with their upcoming films.

Because of these writer's rooms, Goldsman will not write Transformers 5. Deadline reports that Paramount is in talks with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, of Iron Man, and Ken Nolan, of Black Hawk Down. All three participated in the Transformers' writer's rooms thus far. This shift, Deadline writes, is "cemented by Paramount, Hasbro, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Don Murphy."

The idea behind a writer's room is to inspire creative collaboration, an approach that is more familiar to TV show development. The group immerses themselves in the movie's history and lore, working together to flesh out possible storylines.

The Transformers' writer's room boasted some very big names, like Robert Kirkman of The Walking Dead, and Zak Penn, of X-Men: The Last Stand. Goldsman talked to IGN in October, noting that "the room was honestly as delightful an experience as I've had. I think that we were just lucky enough to have a lot of good folks, all of whom were very generous."
