Showrunner Emily Andras tantalized fans with an extended sneak peek of the Wynonna Earp season 4 premiere in the final minutes of the Wynonna Earp panel from Comic-Con@Home 2020. Based on a series of comics published by IDW, the television adaptation has honored the publications but stands alone and takes some liberties with the story. The July 26th premiere comes nearly two years after the season 3 finale left Waverly Earp trapped in the Garden of Eden and the citizens of Purgatory missing in action.

Season 4 was uncertain for more than a year after the season 3 finale left fans on a heartbreaking cliffhanger that ultimately altered the mythology of the series. The Earp curse was broken by the season’s villain, Waverly Earp (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) was revealed to be an angel and was forcefully pulled into the Garden of Eden where her sister could not follow, and the citizens of Purgatory are all missing. The only clue being an engraving of the name Valdez carved into the wall of the Earp homestead.

Comic-Con@Home’s panel gave fans a first look at upcoming season with a near 3-minute preview of Sunday’s premiere. The clip seems to pick up where season 3 left off, as Wynonna gears up with weapons to try and save her sister. Fans will get a chuckle at the tongue in cheek reference to the long-awaited episode. Emily Andras revealed the scene was not the opening of the episode however, leaving viewers to wonder what may be coming before that scene.

Wynonna Earp’s path to a fourth season was a tumultuous one with a lack of funding leaving the show in limbo after the conclusion of season 3. However, it was through the power and dedication of the fans who went as far as purchasing billboards in Times Square in a campaign aptly called ‘Fight For Wynonna' to show their support and prove to the powers that be there was an audience ready and willing to support the series.

When talking about the support in the panel, Andras expressed her gratitude to the fans claiming that the weight of paying the fans back was something she struggled with before realizing the best way to do so was to keep making the show they love. Wynonna Earp clearly has a large fanbase, so seeing the trailer for the upcoming season as well as getting an entire panel devoted to the series was certainly a treat for fans. The fans and the cast have been waiting a long time to see the next season, and given what was shown in the trailer, fans won't be disappointed when Wynonna Earp season 4 premieres tonight on Syfy.
