Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 is now officially titled Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. After the successful launch of the Harry Potter spin-off series in 2016, Warner Bros. is starting to build another franchise off of the back of the popular lore created by best selling author, J.K. Rowling.

Introducing a slew of new characters, the ongoing narrative takes place years before the event of the main Potter series and follows a new protagonist named Newt Scamander — a magizoologist and an employee at the Ministry of Magic. With the first film laying the grounds to what is going to be a multi-movie storyline featuring some of the mythos’ familiar characters like Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), the budding series is already a successful new wizarding saga in the making.

Narrative specifics for the follow-up off-shoot are still relatively scant, but it has been confirmed that the sequel will explore the beginnings of Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s storied rivalry. How Newt (Eddie Redmayne) factors in all this still remains to be seen, but it will be interesting how the new storyline will eventually connect to the main Harry Potter narrative and whether it will have an effect on how fans perceive some of the characters that they first met during that era.

With a year to go until the Fantastic Beasts sequel hits theaters, Warner Bros. Pictures has now revealed the film’s official title and cast photo – offering the first look at Jude Law in the role of the young Albus Dumbledore, alongside the other main players in The Crimes of Grindelwald. For those unfamiliar, here is the official synopsis for The Crimes of Grindelwald:As he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause — elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler), but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.

In addition to the aforementioned returning players from the first Fantastic Beasts, the above cast photo includes Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron) as an as-yet named woman who works for a wizarding circus, shown here sitting alongside Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone (another returning character from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). Meanwhile, seated together in the middle of the photo are Callum Turner as Thesus Scamander, Newt’s brother, and Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange – Newt’s former schoolmate and love interest, who appears to be romantically involved with Thesus now (assuming this photo is an accurate indicator).

With a year left until The Crimes of Grindelwald hit theaters, this cast photo/title reveal will have to tide Wizarding World fans over until a proper teaser trailer for the film is released. With Rowling writing the sequel and David Yates back as director, the Fantastic Beasts sequel should manage to please those who were fans of the first chapter in Newt’s grand adventures.

Well, looks like this is the Successor series to Harry Potter.
