The next cinematic universe to take over the big screens rises on June 9th when The Mummy hits theaters. The film is set to kick off the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe, which will see the stories of familiar freaks like Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the Wolfman interconnect for the first time.

The Mummy will introduce Tom Cruise as Nick Morton, a character who dies in a horrible plane crash only to arise again to battle Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella). The new mummy is an ancient Egyptian princess who awakens from her desert crypt to bring millennia worth of destruction down on humanity. Russell Crowe will also make his debut as Jekyll/Hyde alongside fellow stars Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Courtney B. Vance. Alex Kurtzman, known for writing and producing Star Trek and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, directed the movie from a script by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Edge of Tomorrow) and Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange, Prometheus).
