The fourth Thor film from Marvel, Thor: Love and Thunder, has officially been delayed as Disney shifts their release schedule because of COVID-19. Thor: Love and Thunder will star Chris Hemsworth, who he has been playing the God of Thunder since Thor was released in 2011. The sequel Thor: The Dark World wasn't very well-received, but the series of films was rejuvenated when director Taika Waititi came on to direct Thor: Ragnarok. His unique style of humor and intense visuals brought Thor back to life, and he is officially returning to direct the upcoming fourth film.

Recently, as the coronavirus pandemic spread, two of Disney's biggest releases, Mulan and Black Widow, were unsurprisingly delayed as the situation worldwide was quickly getting more severe. Movie theaters everywhere have been forced to close and have since requested financial support from the government. Though it was clear that these delays would affect all their other releases, they didn't announce anything else until now.

Disney just announced the new slate of release dates for all of their upcoming Disney and Marvel films. Thor: Love and Thunder initially had a release date of November 5, 2021, but has now been moved back to 2022. The film's new release date is February 18, 2022, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has taken Thor: Love and Thunder's old date. All the other upcoming Marvel films, including The Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, have been moved as well.

Black Widow, the next Marvel film to be released, has now been moved to November 6, 2020, taking The Eternals spot. There has been no word on whether the Marvel series on Disney+ will be moved back. However, given they are to be heavily involved with the films, it is very likely. The first series that's supposed to premiere on the streamer is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, scheduled for August 2020.

Thor: Love and Thunder is to feature the return of Jane Foster, a brilliant astrophysicist who fell in love with Thor in the first film. Played by Natalie Portman, she appeared in the first two films, but was completely absent from the third. The upcoming fourth film is said to be covering the story of how Jane becomes Thor, as seen in the comics. It's unclear whether it will fully cover the comic's version with the breast cancer storyline. Valkyrie will be returning, and Christian Bale is joining the film as the villain. Another fan favorite who might return is Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif. Waititi has already completely changed the MCU with his distinctive style. It'll be exciting to see him continue to bring new life to under appreciated characters like Jane in Thor: Love and Thunder.
