Warner Bros. and DC have already announced who will play all the Justice Leaguers in the DC Extended Universe, with one exception: Green Lantern. (Sorry, Shazam, you haven’t made the team cut yet.) The last year has seen plenty of rumors of who might become the next Emerald Knight, from Tyrese Gibson as John Stewart to Dan Amboyer as Hal Jordan, but the studio’s staying mum for now. Still, the ring-slinger has fans even in the acting community, and Lucifer star D.B. Woodside took an unorthodox approach to trying to get a Green Lantern audition.

At last year’s Comic-Con International, D.B. Woodside wore a Green Lantern T-shirt to show off his love for the hero, but he also admitted to Comic Book Resources that he was trying to get the attention of some DC bigwigs. He said:
Maybe I was wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt because I'm trying to get into the minds over at DC as they are looking for their Green Lantern. ‘Open up and take a look at some others out here in Los Angeles.’ That was my cheeky way of trying to influence them. … Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to audition for any of those movies. That's why I was going with the Green Lantern t-shirt and trying to let people know I am very interested in that world. I would love to play Green Lantern.
While Comic-Con no doubt had a lot of fans wearing Green Lantern T-shirts, D.B. Woodside had the advantage with getting noticed since he was there plugging Lucifer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the DC folks took the bait, though that may be because Lucifer is a Vertigo property, which is under the DC brand. They wouldn’t want to stretch him two different directions. Lucifer is only six episodes into its first season, so it’s too soon to tell what its future several years from now looks like. If the show is still airing at that point, Woodside may not be able to fit Green Lantern into his schedule, assuming his character doesn’t get killed off…which is harder to do, considering he’s playing an angel.

The exact plans concerning what’s in store for Green Lantern in the DCEU are still murky. 2020’s Green Lantern Corps is said to be a "buddy cop" adventure between Hal Jordan and John Stewart (among all the other Corps members appearing), and numerous reports have said that a Green Lantern will appear in the Justice League movies. However, neither Hal nor John appeared in the recent promo art featuring the other founding heroes, so it remains to be seen when either of them will make their cinematic appearance.

You can currently see D.B. Woodside as the angel Amenadiel on Lucifer, which airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on Fox. As for Green Lantern, the Green Lantern Corps movie hits theaters on June 19, 2020. In the meantime, let us know what you think of Woodside playing John Stewart in the DCEU in the comments below.
