‘Teen Titans’ Live-Action TV Series Character Roster Revealed
With superhero shows all the rage thanks to the likes of Arrow and The Flash, it’s no surprise that cable networks are hoping to get into the game with comic book adaptations of their own – enter TNT’s pilot based on the Teen Titans line (retitled Titans). However, things have been rather quiet on the Titans news front since it was announced for pilot pick-up, with production slated to get underway later this year.
That changes today, as it seems we can now start fan-casting a roster. According to a fresh update – from a source that’s reportedly gotten its hands on the pilot script written by Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes – Titans will feature several fan-favorite superheroes for the premiere episode of the series – and leaves the door open for at least one more to join the party, by the end.
The Nerdist is reporting that the show’s hero line-up will, of course, include Dick Grayson; in the pilot, he’s still using his Robin identity, but will become Nightwing after dealing with a “breakup” with Batman by being a P.I. in Boston.
Meanwhile, Barbara Gordon – currently wheelchair bound for an unknown reason (Joker attack?) – will serve as the team’s resident computer hacker, with Hawk, Dove, and Raven – the Rachel Roth version – rounding out the team, before Starfire appears later during the pilot (setting her up to become a permanent team member in a future episode). In addition, Nerdist is claiming that Cyborg and Beast Boy aren’t included in the Titans pilot script, but there’s potential for them to appear later in the series’ run.
Titans Character List
Dick Grayson (Robin & Nightwing)
Barbara Gordon (Oracle)
Hawk & Dove
Raven (Rachel Roth)
Starfire
*Cyborg & Beast Boy Possibly Later On
There’s been talk recently of cross-over potential for TNT’s Titans interacting with CW’s Arrow and The Flash, seeing as both stations are owned (or co-owned in The CW’s case) by Warner Bros. In this case, however, it’s the desire to not have to deal with the hassle of bringing mismatched series (from a tone perspective) into the same world, which appears to be making the possibility of a crossover involving all three shows less certain.
Where that leaves Titans is anyone’s guess. Sure, it could cross-over with The CW shows, but that possibility seems unlikely, especially after CBS already shot-down the potential of Supergirl doing the same thing despite Greg Berlanti executive producing all three series (and the eye having a co-ownership stake in The CW). But, in the end, the lack of cross-over for these series doesn’t bother us as much as the worry that this could all blow up in everyone’s collective faces.
The primary focus of TNT and fans right now needs to be making a show as stellar as The CW offerings, not whether or not they can do cross-over business. That discussion can be saved for a later time.
Stay tuned for more on Titans as it develops.
