It's already eight years since Russell Crowe wore the tights, so here comes another origin story for the Sherwood outlaw and his Merry Men. Previously known as Robin Hood: Origins, the streamlined new title for the latest re-telling is once again simply Robin Hood. And here's the first trailer, courtesy of studio Lionsgate.

Taron Egerton takes the lead in this version, returning from the Crusades to battle the corrupt likes of the Sheriff of Nottingham (Ben Mendelsohn) while helping the locals peasantry subsist. Judging by the clip, his is very much Robin-Hood-as-Batman, with the wolfshead maintaining a Bruce Wayne-type alter-ego (Robin of Locksley? Robert of Huntingdon?) at court. Action will be packed by way of longbow and fast-loading crossbow. This appears closer in tone and style to Guy Ritchie's 2017 comic-book King Arthur than Ridley Scott's 2010 "historical" Robin.

The rest of the eclectic cast includes Jamie Foxx as Little John, Tim Minchin as Friar Tuck, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian and Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlet. Otto Bathurst is the director.

Robin Hood is released in the UK on 23 November this year.
