Killjoys has got a final two-season renewal at Syfy. The space adventure series has been running since 2013, with now three seasons of galaxy hopping under its belt. It focuses on a trio of space bounty hunters named Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen), John Jaqobis (Aaron Ashmore), and D’avin Jaqobis (Luke MacFarlane) who all work for Reclamation Apprehension Coalition. The RAC mandates them to be neutral at all times while executing their jobs. Of course, with each one of them having personal issues to attend to, things are a little more complicated than that.

The crew had spent the majority of Season 3 deviating from their roles as bounty hunters to fight the super-skilled Hullen – a looming threat to the Quad and all of galaxy. The evil group was led by Aneela (also played by John-Kamen) who is a cunning warrior who shares a history with Dutch. But by the end of its latest outing, Killjoys teased the show going back to its bounty hunting basics.

According to a report from The Wrap, Syfy is giving the Killjoys showrunners two seasons to wrap up everything. David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, co-presidents of Boat Rocker Studios and executive producers of the series, have shared that they a thrilled for the opportunity to wrap up the show in a fitting way:

“A final two-season order is a huge vote of confidence for a show that keeps getting better and better. We are so proud of the support ‘Killjoys’ has received from critics and fans alike, and are thrilled to plan a deserving ending for Dutch and the Jaqobis brothers; it has been an incredible intergalactic journey and we could not have wished for better partners to share the ride.”

Series creator Michelle Lovretta has mirrored the sentiments of his co-executive producers, expressing both her gratitude to Syfy for the chance to tell her story, as well as to the fans who relentlessly support the show:

“This renewal is the kind of privilege every creator hopes for – a chance to plan the end of your story with the luxury of 20-episodes to do it. I’m immensely grateful that both of our network partners — along with Temple Street and UCP — have given our team, cast and fans this incredible opportunity.”

Season 4 of Killjoys is expected to roll-out sometime next year, with its last outing expected to follow presumably in 2019. In its three seasons so far, the Canadian series has been getting generally positive feedback, especially for its lighter tone similar to old sci-fi series like Stargate SG-1 and Firefly. That said, it still is able to tackle more mature content in a way that still preserves the lightheartedness of the show.
