Dwayne Johnson’s debut as Black Adam could be coming in Suicide Squad 2. Back in the earliest of stages of Warner Bros. mapping out a shared universe for their DC characters, the studio hired bona fide box office draw and Hollywood’s lucky charm Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to star in Shazam! as the lead villain, Black Adam. Since that point, Black Adam’s future has shifted quite a bit, as he is currently not in the cards for the Zachary Levi led DC film.

The current plan for Black Adam was thought to be that he would debut in his solo movie, while the actor and Henry Cavill fueled speculation that a meet-up with Superman in Man of Steel 2 may be on the cards. As it turns out, the first introduction for the character may come in Suicide Squad 2.

The Wrap is reporting the current plan for Suicide Squad 2 will feature Johnson making his debut as Black Adam. No, the villain won’t be part of the new Task Force X lineup, but instead what they are after if the current plan remains. The reported plot will see the Suicide Squad on a mission to find a weapon of mass destruction, which turns out to be Black Adam.

Pitting the Suicide Squad against Black Adam would hardly be a fair fight, but thankfully that shouldn’t be a huge issue with this idea. The report states it will be a minor role for Johnson, small enough that he can fit it into his incredibly busy schedule for next year, so fans shouldn’t expect him to be the main villain. Instead, Black Adam will be the MacGuffin for the squad to find, but we still hope they’ll have some increased fire power when that time comes.

Warner Bros. has been trying to find a way to get Johnson officially part of the DC world for quite some time, so this will be a long time coming if this plan remains. With Warrior‘s Gavin O’Connor writing and directing the sequel, he could’ve been the one to bring this idea to the table, or it has been in the works for a while – and this is the surprising debut The Rock hinted at before.

That all said, this is not yet confirmed by Warner Bros. and plans could definitely change between now and when production begins. On that note, The Wrap states filming won’t begin until October of 2018, which contradicts the most recent report that filming was going to start in March. Pushing back the start date may be part of working in Black Adam, or simply working around schedules for Suicide Squad‘s other stars, or even give WB more time to decide on the longterm future of the DC universe post-Justice League. Whatever the case may be, Black Adam taking on Task Force X could be on its way.
