The long-awaited announcement of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2's premiere date will arrive soon, according to co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman. Strange New Worlds season 1 premiered on May 5th, 2022, and quickly won over old and new Star Trek fans. Boasting a 99% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, Strange New Worlds was lauded for its optimistic return to Star Trek's episodic weekly adventures. However, fans have waited ever since for news about when the already-produced Strange New Worlds season 2 will be streaming on Paramount+.

As reported by TrekMovie.com, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' executive producer Akiva Goldsman delivered a promising update during a talk he gave at MIT on March 15th, 2023. Read what Goldsman told the audience during his lecture below:

Despite Goldsman's premiere date prediction, Paramount+ has not yet announced when Strange New Worlds season 2 will premiere. It's a fair bet that Paramount+ will hold off on its official announcement until April 5, 2023, which Star Trek celebrates as First Contact Day. Of course, Goldsman's joke that Strange New Worlds season 2 was filmed "like 17 years ago" is a nod to how the second season was already in production while season 1 streamed on Paramount+.

Strange New Worlds Season 3 Has Also Started Production

Akiva Goldsman also noted at his MIT presentation that Strange New Worlds has "just started filming the third season now." Paramount+ has also made no official announcement that Strange New Worlds is getting a third season, but that could also come on First Contact Day. Regardless, rumors have been swirling for weeks that Strange New Worlds season 3 was beginning to mount production, and Goldsman confirmed it's happening, if unofficially.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 immediately has to follow up season 1's cliffhanger of Lt. Commander Una-Chin Riley (Rebecca Romijn) getting arrested by Starfleet for lying about a genetically engineered Illyrian. Paul Wesley also joins the cast Lt. James T. Kirk, and Carol Kane will come aboard as Lt. Pelia, the USS Enterprise's new Chief Engineer. In addition, Strange New Worlds season 2 will feature a hybrid live-action and animation comedy crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks as Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome come aboard the Enterprise as Ensign Brad Boimler and Ensign Beckett Mariner.

Akiva Goldsman also spoke about how Strange New Worlds successfully jumps genres from hard sci-fi to comedy to action-adventure to romance. He also praised Strange New Worlds' hybrid of the episodic format while still serializing character arcs and growth. All of this will continue, perhaps in even bolder fashion, in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, and its premiere date announcement is imminent.
