'The Black Order' showcases the Cull Obsidian.

They might have met their match in Avengers: Infinity War, but Thanos' right-hand monsters from that movie aren't staying down. The Cull Obsidian returns this November in its own comic book series, and this time, there's no gauntlet-obsessed titan to tell Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight and the rest of the team what to do.

The five-issue Black Order series will be written by fantasy novelist Derek Landy, with art by former Uncanny X-Men artist Philip Tan. The run takes place in current Marvel comic book continuity, where the group is no longer connected with Thanos in any way — indeed, Thanos is currently dead in comic book mythology, although it remains to be seen how long that lasts. Despite that, the cover of the first issue features the tagline, "The Warmasters of Thanos" to underscore the Avengers: Infinity War connection.

According to a statement from Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort, Black Order "sets the flagitious five on a bloody, brutal, head-rolling, take-no-prisoners tear that will pit them against the forces of an entire Galactic Empire — and where they'll encounter some familiar Marvel faces as well as some bonkers new faces along the way."
The series launches Nov. 7.
