There's no denying that J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens did a phenomenal job of answering many of the questions that have lingered since Return of the Jedi. However, the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise also raised plenty of new mysteries as well. Arguably no debate has become more persistent than the mystery surrounding Rey and her vague origins. Will we ever learn more about Rey's parents? According to Daisy Ridley, it's simply a matter of time -- a year, to be exact. She said:

We will see in a year. Just sit tight on that question.

During a recent conversation with Vulture, Daisy Ridley played incredibly coy with the details regarding Rey's parentage. She seems to have a very clear understanding that we're all dying to know who Rey really is, and where she really comes from. However, she also seems to know that the newly revived Star Wars franchise has worked because everyone involved with the series has had the foresight to keep potential spoilers neatly under wraps. We will find out who Rey's parents are, but we will have for Star Wars: Episode VIII to hit theaters next year to get all of the details.
Daisy Ridley Rey

It's not remotely surprising that Daisy Ridley isn't giving us much information. There's a longstanding tradition of secrecy associated with the Star Wars saga. From the (SPOILER ALERT) reveal of Darth Vader as Luke Skywalker's father during the events of Empire Strikes Back, to the death of Han Solo at the hands of Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, Star Wars has become one of the most consistently secretive franchises in the history of the modern blockbuster. If that tradition holds firm for the next year, then we likely won't learn exactly who left Rey on Jakku until we're actually sitting in theaters watching Episode VIII.

Although we don't know any concrete information about Rey's origins or parents, that hasn't stopped us from speculating to our hearts' content. As soon as the credits rolled on The Force Awakens, people began developing their own theories about the young girl. Some think that she could be the daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi, while others think that she's a member of the Skywalker family. There's even a vocal portion of the Internet that believes her to be the reincarnated spirit of Anakin Skywalker. That's an admittedly bizarre theory, but anything's possible in the Star Wars universe.

CinemaBlend will bring you any and all relevant details related to the future of the Star Wars series as more information becomes available to us. The saga will go back in time with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which hits theaters later this year on December 16, and Rey's story will continue next year when Star Wars: Episode VIII blasts its way into theaters on December 15. 2017.
