Star Wars Theory Thinks We Met The Last Jedi, And It Ain’t Luke Skywalker

While the newest entry in the Star Wars saga finally has a title, nobody knows what it means. However, since fans have nearly a year to try and guess, that will give them plenty of time to consider every possibility. One new fan theory has emerged that suggests that The Last Jedi might be somebody other than Luke Skywalker, Rey, or even Kylo Ren. What if Supreme Leader Snoke is actually The Last Jedi?

The theory comes from Reddit user AnakinKardashian, which is either the best, or the worst, username ever conceived. The basic gist is this. A lot of the setup of Star Wars: The Force Awakens along with some of the more recent tie-in novels seem to be focused on the ancient history of the galaxy far, far, away. Luke Skywalker disappears looking for an ancient Jedi temple. There's also some sort of ancient secret on Jakku according to a recent book. The story seems to be setting us up to learn a lot about the history of the Jedi, so what if the Last Jedi isn't somebody comparatively young, but actually somebody very, very, old.

Supreme Leader Snoke is incredibly old, though we don't know really know how old he is. This theory posits that he is ancient, that he is actually part of a version of the Jedi so old that it bears little resemblance to the Jedi as we know them. Snoke is the last living member of that ancient order, who we will learn more about when we learn what Luke Skywalker has discovered at the first Jedi Temple. Snoke is The Last Jedi because the order evolved into something else over time.

As theories go it's not terrible. The basic setup, that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will give us the ancient history of the Jedi order, is a very strong possibility. There's a strong chance that Snoke will be connected to that in some way. He does look incredibly old. Snoke certainly has some connection to the Force. It's certainly possible that there could be something to this idea.

In the end, the strongest factor against the theory has more to do with what's going on outside the fourth wall than anything presented in the story. The theory is essentially arguing that Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi and everybody that we have known as Jedi up to this point aren't really Jedi, that they're some sort of alternate branch of the philosophy. While we fully expect the new trilogy to make the Star Wars mythos its own, it's highly unlikely they will make such a massive change to the already established canon. There would be a pretty strong fan backlash to that that we don't think Disney would be willing to do.

I read a theory on this. I wonder if it will be true.

I am still holding out hope that the stormtrooper who bumped his head turned into Snoke(they both would have a huge dent in their forehead) haha
