The Simpsons and FOX are taking a very animated look at the first 100 days of Donald Trump’s presidency in a new video short. Now in its 28th season, the classic animated series has never been afraid to poke fun at anybody or anything, including last year when its Debateful Eight skit lampooned the final eight of the presidential candidates in the 2016 presidential election – including Trump, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Bernie Sanders. And since the show curiously predicted Trump would become president in the 2000 episode Bart to the Future, the creators apparently felt it was only right to take a look at how the leader of the free world did in his first 100 days in office.

In a video released Wednesday by FOX, the rundown of the customary first 100 days the president is in office is broken down Simpsons style. Set on a dark and stormy night, the sketch begins with a wicked image of the perpetually exasperated White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer with a sign pinned to him that notes, “I quit,” as he swings from noose next to his press podium (with Trump’s campaign manager-turned-presidential adviser Kellyanne Conway running petrified from the scene saying, “I am not replacing him.”).

The action then pans up the staircase to the president’s bedroom, where Trump is sitting in his pajamas with three books – The Little Book of Big Bombs, Florida on $10 Million Dollars a Day and Killing a Good Thing (by former FOX News talking head Bill O’Reilly) – sprawled out on his bed. The president’s too busy for reading, though, and is looking at his smart phone, analyzing things like his increase in Twitter followers. Of course, the comedy bit couldn’t resist making fun of the president’s hair, which is really a dog shifting positions on the top of his head.

Not surprisingly, the Republican Party is the butt of the jokes in the video, as is FOX News. First daughter Ivanka Trump is also a target, when she joins the U.S. Supreme Court to replace an angry Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg (who proceeds to garrote a Secret Service agent with her necklace, much in the same way Clinton tries to strangle Sanders in the Debateful Eight video). The video ends with Homer urging a panicking Marge, “Please, give the president of the United States some time. He’s only 70 years old.”

It’s hard to say how polarizing the video will be to Trump supporters who love The Simpsons, simply because after nearly three decades on the air, the skit is made up of the same irreverence viewers have come to expect. Like it or not, the president of the United States – whether it be Trump or his predecessors, has always been fodder for comedy – and since The Simpsons’ take on the new commander in chief’s first 100 days is definitely more satirical in tone than mean-spirited, fans will hopefully take it with a grain of salt. We’re talking about life in Springfield, after all.
