Star Wars 7 cast rumors have been swirling since Disney announced the movie would be the first of three more to be made as episodes. So far, the only three roles that seem to have been confirmed are Leia Organa Solo (Carrie Fisher), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

New rumors suggest that science fiction film veterans Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving may be playing roles in the next Star Wars film. For anyone who doesn’t recognize those names, they have both been in movies based on Marvel Comics characters. Fassbender played Magneto in X-Men: First Class and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. Hugo Weaving played Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Weaving’s involvement in the Star Wars 7 cast rumors could be just another notch on the actor’s belt after a long line of successful films such as The Matrix (Agent Smith), Transformers (Megatron), and Lord of the Rings (Elrond).

However, J.J. Abrams has allegedly said that he wants the film to focus on Han, Luke, and Leia, and give the characters a proper sendoff. This might worry some fans, because the two actors and actress playing the roles are much older than they were in the original trilogy and most likely aren’t able to handle any real action scenes. While it may be a nod to fans, this focus could drag the pace of the movie down.

The previous Star Wars 7 cast rumors could be thrown out because of this sudden decision to rewrite the film and bring back the big three as the focus. One fact is for certain, and that is that the focus of every Star Wars film to date will be changed this time around. Anakin Skywalker, the common thread that tied the “complete saga” together, can only come back as a Force ghost, if at all.

What Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving could be cast as in the next film is also up for much speculation. Both actors have proven themselves several times before. Fassbender might play a minor role, considering his already busy plans for the following years (X-Men: Apocalypse and Assassin’s Creed). Weaving could be Thrawn, the most feared leader of the Empire since Palpatine.

Although Thrawn wasn’t a Sith Lord, he was notorious for his military brilliance. He had sped up the cloning process to build a massive army, and wasn’t against using cloned Sith Lords to bring the Empire back from destruction.
