Star Trek Picard Season 2 Starts Filming In January Confirms Star

Star Trek: Picard star Evan Evagora has confirmed that the second season of the sci-fi series will begin production in January 2021. This show on CBS All Access is a spinoff continuation of the wildly popular series Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ran from 1987 to 1994. The show incorporates older characters from The Next Generation but has also introduced several new characters to the story. On Star Trek: Picard, Evagora plays the character Elnor, a Romulan who had previously been abandoned by the character Picard.

This spinoff Star Trek series starring Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard was supposed to begin filming in the summer of this year, but like most television shows, Picard was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since that delay, very little information has come out about Star Trek: Picard season 2, although other Star Trek projects like the animated series Lower Decks have proceeded with development and production.

In an interview with TrekMovie.com, Evagora explained that he knows the show will resume production in January, but he does not yet have a specific date. Despite the uncertainty, Evagora seems very excited for filming to begin again. He mentions how much he has missed his friends from the show and how he can’t wait to see the cast and crew again. Evagora's quote can be read in full below:

"Yeah, January we will be filming. I don’t know if they have posted the date. All I know is everyone’s saying January, January, January. So we’ll start season two there and in my opinion it cannot come quicker. I’m so excited, not just to get back to work, but to get back to the motley crew and hang out with everyone… in California."

In his interview, Evagora also mentioned that he has a few ideas for how Star Trek: Picard season 2 can be even better. His biggest idea: bringing on Patrick Stewart’s long-time friend Sir Ian McKellen. “It’s got to happen. Whether it’s a villain, or a commander, or something. He needs to be in it,” Evagora says. He also stated that he would like to see cameos from other Star Trek: The Next Generation characters, like Geordi and Worf. Evagora says that as an actor, he feels his Romulan character Elnor has a lot of narrative similarities to the Klingon character Worf because both give the audience insight into alien characters that were previously unfamiliar. Evagora is looking forward to exploring that more in future seasons.

Evagora’s excitement for Star Trek: Picard season 2 is understandable, and many fans are feeling the same way. Unfortunately, a January production date means that viewers will have to wait several months before the new season comes along to answer their unanswered questions on Picard. On the other hand, this confirmation from Evagora is at the very least a sign that the show is still alive, and that Star Trek: Picard season 2 will come later rather than never.
