The Jurassic Park franchise will continue after Jurassic World: Dominion, which will be the start of a new era of films. Steven Spielberg created one of the biggest franchises of all time in 1993 with his take on the Jurassic Park source material. But, it was in 2015 that the franchise was reborn with the release of Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the lead roles. The relaunch had the biggest opening weekend ever at the time and made over $1.6 billion worldwide.

Even though the sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, wasn't as well-received and made less at the box office, Universal was already plotting the end of the trilogy. Colin Trevorrow signed on to return as the director of Jurassic World 3 and he began assembling a cast filled with franchise veterans, as original stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum agreed to come back. These returns and the fact that Jurassic World: Dominion is the final entry of the new trilogy left some fans wondering what future the franchise held.

In a new interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall confirmed there are plans to continue the Jurassic Park franchise beyond Jurassic World: Dominion. He was asked by the outlet if the film was envisioned as the end, eliciting a simple "no" from the longtime producer. Marshall instead says Jurassic World 3 is the "start of a new era" for the franchise and teased where the stories could go from here:

The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that the hope is for the Jurassic franchise to continue after Jurassic World: Dominion is released in June of 2021 (for now). Universal has made almost $3 billion on the first two installments of the new trilogy, and the nostalgic returns of previous stars could create even more excitement for Jurassic World 3. Even beyond the franchise's box office dominance, Trevorrow has shown that other stories in this world are worth exploring with the release of Battle at Big Rock in 2019. Similarly, an animated show set in the Jurassic franchise is in development at Netflix.

What is potentially more intriguing than the inevitable continuation of the Jurassic franchise is what Marshall's comments could mean for Jurassic World 3's story and ending. He indicates the dinosaurs won't suddenly be put back in confinement by the end of the film and continue to roam free. This not only would mean that any plans to do so will fail in Jurassic World 3, but the stories that will follow this trilogy will continue to deal with the aftermath. Whether or not Pratt, Howard, or other recent trilogy stars will be involved with future movies remains to be seen, but maybe fans shouldn't expect Jurassic World: Dominion to wrap up the whole story anymore.
