She's already shown her abilities as a rock multi-instrumentalist under the musical pseudonym St. Vincent, but now Annie Clark has her eye on an interesting movie project. She's looking to adapt Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel The Picture Of Dorian Gray with a female lead.
Lionsgate is backing this one, kicking off the development process by hiring Elle writer David Birke to work on the script. The story of Dorian Gray features a Victorian-age hedonist who never seems to age of suffer the ill-effects of his lifestyle. His secret? A self-portrait stashed in the attic that ages while he stays the same.
While Wilde's book – his only novel in amongst his varied writings – has been adapted several times before for the screen, this one will have quite the wrinkle (pun intended) twist the tale while exploring expectations of female beauty.
This won't be the first time that Clark has stepped behind the camera, as she contributed the segment Birthday Party to female driven horror anthology XX, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
