'Spring Breakers' sort-of sequel in the works

Grab the bikinis and machine guns — Spring Breakers 2 is in the works!

Titled Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, the film will follow a new group of revelers battling an extreme militant Christian sect attempting to convert them.
Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting) wrote the screenplay, with Jonas Akerlund (Spun, Small Apartments) set to direct. Muse Productions, which was behind the first movie, is producing alongside Wild Bunch.
“It’s not a direct sequel, although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original,” Wild Bunch co-chief Vincent Maraval told Screen Daily, which first reported the story.
Harmony Korine directed 2013′s Spring Breakers, an ode to excess starring James Franco, Ashley Benson, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Rachel Korine. The follow-up will feature both new and old characters; there’s no word on exactly which original cast members will be returning.
