Normally when a new Spider-Man film series kicks off, the Web-Slinger only has to deal with one super villain. Spider-Man: Homecoming, on the other hand, is throwing several adversaries at the hero. Following on the heels of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker will have to face off against The Vulture, but leaked set photos have also seemingly confirmed that Shocker will be involved as well. There's also been talk of a third villain recently, but it may not be who many of us originally believed it was.

It was reported a couple months back that Orange is the New Black's Michael Chernus was added to the Spider-Man: Homecoming cast, supposedly as The Tinkerer. However, Schmoes Know is reporting that the tertiary antagonist is actually someone who Peter Parker will have to interact with when not in costume. Here's the description provided:

This third 'villain' is a non-super powered character who butts heads with Peter in his everyday life. He also may be the new someone Aunt May begins dating in the film, a guy that Peter does not approve of. Whether or not the guy is actually bad or it's just Peter's prejudices clouding his judgement remains to be seen. My bets are on a teacher who comes in, trying to fill in the father role he feels is lacking in Peter's life.

Until now, the general assumption from various Spider-Man: Homecoming reports has been that Spidey will be directly fighting Vulture and Shocker, both of whom gained their weaponry from The Tinkerer, who fashioned these devices from leftover Chitauri technology. As the quote above says, though, Peter may also have to deal with his aunt's new boyfriend, and he does not care for this guy. Does that mean he's a super villain? No, he could just be someone that Peter doesn't get along with in his personal life. That being said, longtime Spider-Man fans know that Aunt May did almost marry Doctor Octopus in the comics, so her ignorantly dating a bad guy isn't unprecedented.

Let's also not count out that Spider-Man: Homecoming can have both Michael Chernus' Tinkerer and this new guy, bringing the movie's number of villains to four. In June, Prometheus' Logan Marshall-Green was cast, but his character's identity wasn't revealed. All we learned was that he would play an evildoer who would be seen alongside Michael Keaton's character, who many believe is The Vulture, though that hasn't been confirmed yet. Perhaps Peter's suspicions about this man are true, and we later learn that he's a henchman to one of the lead super villains. Any way you cut it, Spider-Man is going to be surrounded by folks who have a bone to pick with him, both in and out of the mask.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into action on July 7, 2017.
