Actor J.B. Smoove joins the cast of Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Far From Home. The Spider-Man sequel is going to be taking place shortly after the events of Avengers 4. How the two films will tie together, however, is all speculation at this point. But what is known is that Peter Parker, played once again by Tom Holland, will be taking a break from New York City for a summer European vacation.

Watts is returning as director, with Homecoming scribes Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers also returning to pen the script, after last co-writing the screenplay for this summer's Ant-Man and the Wasp. The cast has, for the most part, kept much of the film under wraps, but editor Dan Lebental has said that fans can expect Far From Home to be bigger and funnier than its predecessor.

According to Deadline, J.B. Smoove is the second new cast member confirmed to be playing a starring role in Far From Home. The first was Jake Gyllenhaal who is expected to play the villain Mysterio. The actors will be joining what promises to be a stellar cast, along with Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei are all said to be returning to the MCU, reprising their roles from the first film. Smoove is best known for his role of Leon Black on Curb Your Enthusiasm, and he will be shooting his part before resuming his role on the HBO comedy series.

While there is no word yet as to who Smoove will be playing, he could potentially be another villain. The appearance of several characters in Homecoming hint that a possible showdown between Spider-Man and the Sinister Six may be in the works. Three members have already made an appearance in the MCU; Keaton’s Vulture, Shocker (a Vulture henchman), and Michael Mando’s Scorpion, who appeared in a post credit scene. It's also possible that he could reprise his role as Peter's driving instructor from Homecoming's tie-in Audi commercial. But the possibility of him playing another villain sounds more promising.

Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio looks to be continuing this trend, after all. The character has teamed up with Vulture before and has been included as a member of the Sinister Six in the comics, so it would seem likely that Mysterio and Vulture would cross paths at some point in Far From Home. Smoove’s character could join the duo in their attempts to defeat Spider-Man. A battle between the web-slinging hero and a star studded Sinister Six would definitely up the ante from the previous film.
