There's a whole mess of characters that currently make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At this point, we're expecting to see most of them in Avengers: Infinity War, however, it turns out there's at least one that won't make it in. We learned at the end of Ant-Man that Evangeline Lilly will be picking up the mantle of The Wasp, however, she won't be making her debut in the big Marvel team-up, at least not at first.
The Wasp

There's an Avengers series coming out. It's a two-parter. The Wasp won't be in the first part, she'll be in the second part, because they really want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man And The Wasp.

Originally, the next entry in the Avengers franchise was being called Avengers: Infinity War Part I & II. While the titles have seen some changes, the plan is still for the two films to be connected. However, there will be two MCU films that will open in between the two parts and Ant-Man & The Wasp is one of them. Evangeline Lilly tells Blastr that we won't see her character in action as The Wasp until then.

This isn't too surprising to hear. The other MCU film that will debut in between the two Avengers movies will be Captin Marvel and we've also been told that we won't see Brie Larson's Carol Danvers prior to that movie either. While this news isn't surprising, it is unfortunate, as diversity has never been the strong suit of Marvel Studios to this point, and not putting either Captain Marvel or The Wasp in Avengers: Infinity War will just make Scarlett Johanssen look even more alone as the sole female among even more male heroes, unless Gamora is also involved..

Still, the fact that two significant female heroes will be making their debut following Avengers: Infinity War, in back-to-back movies, and then will, hopefully, figure prominently in the Avengers follow-up is certainly good news. At the very least this does appear to be a confirmation that The Wasp will be in the final film that ends Marvel's Phase Three. While we're not sure exactly how many members of the MCU will be part of Avengers: Infinity War, we're pretty much expecting everybody will be making an appearance in the film that used to be called Part II.

While the original Ant-Man was certainly a hit, by Marvel's standards it wasn't the runaway blockbuster that they were used to seeing. This made the announcement that Ant-Man & The Wasp was even on its way something of a surprise. It was great to see The Wasp's name in the title, though, it does seem clear that the MCU has something significant planned for her. While introducing her during Avengers: Infinity War would certainly work, it's likely the character would get lost in the shuffle among everybody else. By waiting to reveal her in the smaller film Evangeline Lilly will have a greater opportunity in the spotlight.

Would you rather see the Wasp sooner, but in a smaller role, or let her wait to be revealed as a star in her own movie? Let us know what you think in the comments.
