Sons of Anarchy Spinoff, Mayans MC, Ordered By FX

The potential Sons of Anarchy spinoff, now called Mayans MC, is looking more likely.

FX has ordered a pilot script for the drama series, which comes from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter and producer Elgin James. James, who directed the film Little Birds, will script the first episode for Mayans MC.

FX Networks says the show "will be a dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1 percent outlaw, this time, reflected through a Latino lens."

The Oakland-based biker gang appeared in Sons of Anarchy, which ran for seven seasons on FX and ended in 2014.

As for bringing on James, Sutter explained why he was integral to Mayans MC. "I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice," he said. "Because I didn't think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice."
