Sleepy Hollow brings with it some trouble in paradise for Ichabod and Katrina, as an old love interest returns in the form of a legend known as ‘The Weeping Lady.’

This dark menace was played by the talented Heather Lind (Boardwalk Empire), who does a wonderful job of balancing crazy and sympathetic with the greatest of ease. She clearly has some emotional instabilities, but it’s difficult to not feel sorry for the young lady. The visual effects team did a nice job creating the specter of a woman in black surrounded by water. ‘Eerie’ doesn’t even begin to describe the disturbing image.

As always, this series finds a way to bring in moments of hilarity in an otherwise bleak episode. Caroline, portrayed by The Big Bang Theory alum Laura Spencer was a welcome addition to the cast. It’s unfortunate that we won’t see her again. Ichabod did get some new clothes this week, even if they weren’t the latest fashion. At least we know that he doesn’t wear the same outfit everyday. Also, his reluctance to use a text message to apologize to Caroline was a nice touch, as the eighteenth-century gentlemen would rather converse with the young woman face-to-face.

Abbie played second fiddle this week, as this was a Katrina and Ichabod story. The two seemingly have an epic love straight out of a fairy tale, so having this temporary setback brought the couple back down to reality. Like Ichabod said, “Marriage is hard even on the best of days.” Surely this does not spell doom and gloom on their two-hundred plus year marriage, but it does call into question how much Katrina has been hiding from Ichabod. At the end of the episode, Ichabod tells Abbie that they must trust in each other in order to succeed in this war. Katrina is Ichabod’s wife, but the relationship he has with Officer Mills is far more interesting.

Speaking of untrustworthy, the charming privateer Nick Hawley makes his presence known yet again, but now we see that there is a past relationship between him and Jenny Mills. Is there a love triangle about to take shape? Hopefully not, since the sisters have never been closer. While Hawley may have a nice smile, Abbie doesn’t seem too impressed, so far. Do you think there’s a chance Abbie could fall for Hawley?

By the episode’s end, it appears that Henry Parish (The Horseman of War) is quickly falling out of favor with Moloch. The offspring of Katrina and Ichabod played a dangerous hand this week and lost. Moloch informs his minion that he doesn’t want him “planning” anything in the future. Henry may be a “bad guy,” but it was sad watching him cry on the floor like a little boy. Since he did not have the best childhood, perhaps he’s just searching for someone to accept and appreciate him for who he is? Is there any hope for redemption? Only time will tell.

Sleepy Hollow continues to deliver exciting adventures with a perfect blend of comedy and drama rarely seen on television. Stay tuned to see what happens next.
