'Sleepy Hollow' gives wake-up call to 'Blacklist'
The two-hour season finale of Sleepy Hollow on Fox did a number on NBC’s The Blacklist Tuesday. For the first time, the Fox drama squeaked by the James Spader series in adults 18-49 (2.4 versus 2.3) and finished the night at No. 1, according to Nielsen results.
The Fox drama also boasted some nice little gains from the week before, like jumping up 5% in 18-49 and 6% in total viewers (6.9 million versus 6.5 million).
In its defense, Blacklist had some particularly weak lead-ins. NBC tried to showcase its (fun!) Jane Lynch-hosted game show Hollywood Game Night and 8 and 9 but the results were disappointing: 1.3/4 and 1.5/4, respectively. Those were better numbers than some previous telecasts but it did no favors to Blacklist, which was down 8% to a series low. NBC, as a result, came in fourth for the night in the important demo (1.7/4).
ABC was a close second to Fox with a 2.2/6. An original of The Bachelor — the first one to air since Juan Pablo Galavais’ anti-gay comments made headlines — averaged a 2.3/6 (even with last week). Castle posted a 2.0/6, which was up 5% from last week.
CBS came in third for the night with How I Met Your Mother earning a lovely 3.0/8, followed by 2 Broke Girls (2.7/7) Mike & Molly (2.1/5) and Mom (1.9/5). And damn, look at this number for Intelligence — a 1.1/3, down 8% from last week. (It averaged 5.5 million viewers). So much for that stellar debut.
