Six Billion Dollar Man Starts Filming This Summer
After a rough start and a delayed premiere date, Warner Bros’ Six Billion Dollar Man starring Mark Wahlberg is finally ready to begin filming this summer, though details are still incredibly slim. The sci-fi/action flick was meant to begin filming in 2016 with a planned release date of December 22, 2017 . The film was delayed two years due to Wahlberg’s busy schedule. Wahlberg has just finished working on All The Money In The World and is currently filming Mile 22 in Atlanta. Along with his acting credits, Wahlberg has continued to produce in the interim, including the upcoming Mile 22, Daddy’s Home 2, and Ballers with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Production dates have are not known at this time, neither has a release date been set. Production company Ground Breach expects to be out of production by February 23. According to Omega Underground , the exact start date has not yet been released but the company is aiming to begin filming in Atlanta this sometime this summer. Damián Szifron (Wild Tales) is set to write and direct.
It’s also worth noting that Six Billion Dollar Man was formerly a property of The Weinstein Company . While reports claimed Wahlberg’s busy schedule as the reason for the delay, it is not outside the realm of possibility that the allegations against Harvey Weinstein, along with the company’s crippling debt and sales talks, put a kink in the filming schedule.
The Weinstein Company is currently close to closing a deal that will absorb less than half of their current debt. Other films have been affected in the wake of The Weinstein Company’s troubles. Two other films were set to premiere on December 22, 2017, Wild Tales and The Current War. The Current War was also delayed and is currently set for release sometime this year. Warner Bros. bought Six Billion Dollar Man amid upheaval and delays from The Weinstein Company in December of last year in the chaos of the Time Warner/At&T bid. Despite concern the bid would cause for the studio’s slate of upcoming films, Warner Bros. continued to snatch up promising films while waiting for the sale to settle.
Six Billion Dollar Man will follow Wahlberg as military officer, Steve Austin, who is given bionic body parts and “extraordinary abilities” by a secret government program after a “horrific accident” nearly ends his life.
We will continue to provide updates on Six Billion Dollar Man as more information and dates become available for the film.
