James Corden and Tom Cruise reenacted scenes from Cruise's extensive filmography on Wednesday, bringing brief snippets of Top Gun, Rain Man, Risky Business, Vanilla Sky and many more to life on The Late Late Show. The pair moved at a blistering pace, changing outfits and hairdos in rapid succession as they romped through three decades of pop culture.

Most of the transitions between films went smoothly. During the segue to A Few Good Men, Cruise appeared to forget to remove his Eyes Wide Shut wig, but the crowd cheered furiously as he pulled it off.

The actors showed extra love to a few of Cruise's most famous roles. The pair paid homage to every entry in the Mission: Impossible series, pretending to hang from the ceiling, race motorcycles, pull off cardboard masks, climb the side of a building and board a moving airplane. Jerry Maguire also earned special treatment; as Cruise and Corden shouted their way through the "show me the money" scene, Cuba Gooding Jr. made a cameo to critique Corden's approach. "If you're gonna do it," Gooding Jr. said, "let me do it right."

Toward the end of their tour through recent film history, the two actors revealed the larger purpose of the segment. After Cruise pretended to kick Corden's character in the groin during a scene from Jack Reacher, Corden told Cruise, "this movie was so great, I think you should make a sequel." Sure enough, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back arrives Friday.
