Sorority Row writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger have reportedly been hired to script a new Saw film for Lionsgate.

According to The Tracking Board, sources claim the film is titled Saw: Legacy and will serve as the eighth proper installment in the popular horror franchise. James Wan, the director of the original Saw, as well as screenwriter Leigh Whannell, are on board as executive producers.

No specifics on the plot have been revealed.

In addition to Sorority Row, Goldfinger and Stolberg have worked on a few other horror films, including Piranha 3D and Piranha 3DD, so the writing duo may prove to be an ideal fit for Saw's return to the big screen.

It's been a long time since horror fans have been graced with a new Saw movie, as the series' latest entry, Saw 3D, opened back in 2010. A few years ago, Lionsgate was reportedly developing an eighth movie, which would offer a new spin on the long-running horror franchise. While the studio has yet to formally announce Saw: Legacy, bringing back the super-profitable franchise now seems like a logical movie, especially with The Hunger Games finished and Divergent winding down.
