Universal has unveiled a new First Man poster, featuring Ryan Gosling as astronaut Neil Armstrong, ahead of tonight's trailer release. Following the wild success of his Oscar-winning musical La La Land, director Damien Chazelle changes things up with his next feature film. But Chazelle will still keep one thing that helped make La La Land such a hit: leading man Ryan Gosling.

In Chazelle's First Man, Gosling plays astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. Josh Singer, who wrote the movie based on James R. Hansen's book, describes the film as a "mission movie" focused on the survival aspects of Armstrong's historic Apollo 11 moonshot. Recently revealed First Man images gave us our first look at Gosling as Armstrong, as well as Claire Foy playing the astronaut's wife Janet. The cast also includes Corey Stoll as second man on the moon Buzz Aldrin, and Lukas Haas as Michael Collins, the astronaut who got to stay behind in the lunar orbiter while Armstrong and Aldrin made history.

With the first trailer for First Man slated for release tonight, Universal has debuted new poster art featuring Gosling as the heroic astronaut who took one giant leap for mankind by stepping foot on the surface of the moon. Take a look at the new poster below:

The trailer is set to drop after Gosling's appearance tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Originally developed beginning in 2003 as a vehicle for Clint Eastwood to direct, First Man snagged Gosling as the lead in 2015 and soon after landed Chazelle. Since then, Gosling's star has only risen, with an Oscar nomination for La La Land as well as high-profile performances in The Big Short, The Nice Guys and Blade Runner 2049. Chazelle meanwhile has seen his own star skyrocket after winning the Oscar for Best Director for La La Land, starring Gosling and Emma Stone as young L.A. dreamers falling in love. Chazelle previously garnered a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination for his debut feature Whiplash, about a hotshot jazz musician and his demanding teacher.

After two music-heavy movies centered around jazz, Chazelle now changes things up with First Man, a period piece and by all accounts a very action-centered depiction of humanity's quest for adventure. The first time they teamed up, Chazelle had Gosling saving jazz. Now Gosling will walk on the moon for the director. First Man also stars Jon Bernthal, Shea Whigham, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Pablo Schreiber, Cory Michael Smith, Christopher Abbott, Patrick Fugit and Brian d'Arcy James.
