Rumoured Star Wars Boba Fett Movie Details Revealed by John Schnepp

A director from the TV channel that broadcast the popular ‘Clone Wars’ cartoon series has revealed two bits of information likely to make Star Wars fans happy. Speaking on a podcast interview, Jon Schnepp revealed that not only are plans underway for a film based on cult favourite Star Wars character Boba Fett, but also that the screenplay for it is being written by Lawrence Kasdan.

Schnepp refused to clarify any further or confirm his source for this information, but Star Wars fans will be hoping both parts are true. Kasdan wrote the screenplay for the 1980 Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back, the film widely regarded as the best of the series and the one most usually cited as the favourite film amongst fans.

The popularity of the character Boba Fett has confounded both the makers of Star Wars and general film observers alike. He was a minor, supporting character in The Empire Strikes Back, but one that soon became popular, perhaps due to his striking looking outfit and the fact that he was the only person in the Star Wars universe that could make demands of the villain of the original films, Darth Vader, and get away with it.

As well as The Empire Strikes Back, Kasdan also wrote the screenplay for one other Star Wars film, Return Of The Jedi. Additionally, he wrote and directed the drama The Big Chill, a film which has retained popularity over the years due to its ensemble cast and memorable soundtrack.

Disney bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise in a deal worth US$4billion in 2012. At present they have scheduled the first film, simply carrying the name Episode VII for the moment, for release in December 2015. Their intention is to alternate releases every year, with one year seeing a full Star Wars film and the next a spin-off film concentrating on one character. If a Boba Fett movie will be the first of these spin-off films remains to be officially confirmed, but fans will be hoping that this is the case.
