RoboCop hits theaters on February 7, 2014.

The upcoming reboot of the 1987 sci-fi classic RoboCop is getting a pretty big upgrade; and IMAX release. This according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The reboot, directed by José Padilha, will feature a highly upgraded and much more tactical version of the cyborg crime fighter.

There is definitely no shortage of talent among the cast of the newest incantation of RoboCop.

The Killing’s Joel Kinnaman will play Alex Murphy, the police officer who eventually becomes RoboCop.

Sucker Punch’s Abbie Cornish will be playing Alex Murphy’s wife Clara. Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman will be coming on as Dr. Dennett Norton, the scientist who created RoboCop. Michael Keaton will portray the role of Raymond Sellars, the villainous CEO of OmniCorp. We will also see Samuel L. Jackson as media mogul Pat Novak.

Also joining the cast is Watchmen’s Jackie Earle Haley as Maddox, the military tactician responsible for the training of RoboCop, and Jay Baruchel as Pope, the head of marketing for OmniCorp.

Greg Foster, CEO of Imax Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President of Imax, shared his excitement for the project in a statement today.

Jose Padilha has re-imagined this story in an exciting new way and we’re thrilled to partner with MGM and Sony to bring it to audiences worldwide in the most immersive format, Imax,” ~ The Hollywood Reporter

According to ComingSoon.net, the Imax release of RoboCop will be digitally remastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Media Remastering) technology.

The IMAX format has long been known as the ultimate movie going experience. Its immersive picture and sound has a way of making you feel like you are actually a part of the movie.

It will be very interesting to see what the newest incantation of RoboCop will look like on the big, or should I say bigger, screen. Technology has made so many advances since the original release of RoboCop back in 1987.
