Robert Downey Jr. welcomes 2018 with a great outlook and a reminder that Avengers: Infinity War is finally coming out in just a few months. Following a 2017 that saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok achieve box office and critical success, Kevin Feige and his team at Marvel Studios don’t have any plans of stopping this year. The company is once again all geared-up for a trio of superhero movies this year such as next month’s Black Panther, July’s Ant-Man And The Wasp and of course, the aforementioned movie event that everyone is buzzing about.

All MCU roads lead to the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed movie – their third Marvel Studios project after their impressive work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. Infinity War is set to bring all pockets of the franchise together as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will need all the help that they can get to stop Thanos from his universe-altering plans. It’s still a mystery how the filmmakers will be able to tell a cohesive storyline while also giving all heroes (and villains) enough screen time on top of introducing Marvel’s supposed biggest and baddest antagonist to date. But word has it that the movie mines inspiration from ’90s heist films, which makes sense especially with Thanos looking to acquire all the Infinity Stones – the MacGuffins of the whole series.

Taking to his official Instagram account, RDJ wished his 18 million followers a Happy New Year via a gentle reminder that Infinity War is finally just four months away from hitting theaters. It’s not like fans needed any more reminding considering it’s regarded as the most anticipated movie of 2018 and aptly so since the film is almost 10 years in the making, but the actor’s followers still expressed their excitement on the arrival of the epic blockbuster. Some, however, did not miss the fact that the film’s release falls on the same day as the annual Star Wars Day of May 4. Check out his upload below.

RDJ is, of course, the original MCU hero and just as the franchise is celebrating its 10th year in the business of filmmaking, 2018 also marks the first decade since the actor first debuted as Iron Man in the Jon Favreau’s film of the same name. It’s well known that his casting was opposed by many. He was too much of a risk to take for a film that could either make or break the then-budding Marvel Studios. But the director stuck to his guns and pushed for RDJ and the rest is history. Despite a myriad of fan-favorite actors who eventually joined the massive film series over the years, RDJ holds a special place in fans’ hearts considering his significant contribution to the multi-billion Hollywood juggernaut that it is today.

With the devastating catastrophe that the Russo brothers and Feige have been teasing for Avengers: Infinity War and its still-untitled sequel, which will see some of our favorite MCU characters meet their end, killing off Tony Stark (and maybe even Steve Rogers aka. Captain America and/or Thor) is probably the most logical thing to do to progress the MCU’s narrative. With the arrival of the second wave of heroes like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, the MCU won’t have any scarcity regarding another poster character that could take over Iron Man’s leading role. Still, it won’t be an easy transition, especially if fans are supposed to let go of someone who literally kicked off this massive franchise.
