Skeet Ulrich wants his Scream co-star Neve Campbell to play Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) missing mom on Riverdale . Ulrich of course plays F.P. Jones, Jughead’s just out of prison father and and leader of the notorious Southside Serpents gang. After briefly reforming his ways, he reclaimed his place at the head of the Serpents and is back to his old tricks. Jughead’s mother has been mentioned on Riverdale, but never given a name or seen.

She lives in Toledo with Jughead’s younger sister Jellybean, whose real name in the comics is Forsythia. After his father was arrested for the murder of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines) in Riverdale season 1 , Jughead attempted to leave town and live with his mother, but she turned him away – revealing that she might not be the most reliable parental figure. (So, she’ll fit right in.)

In an interview with TV Line, Ulrich said he would cast Campbell to play his estranged wife and Jughead’s mom because, “She’s very talented, and I think the reference to Scream would really tickle people.” In the film Campbell played Sidney Prescott, a high school student plagued by the Ghostface killer and Ulrich played her boyfriend, Billy Loomis. The film, released in 1996, has since become a cult classic in the realm of slasher movies for its satirical take on the genre.

Riverdale is full of ’90s stars so Campbell wouldn’t be out of place. Other than Ulrich, the cast also includes Twin Peaks star Madchen Amick as Betty’s mom Alice Cooper and former 90210 heartthrob Luke Perry as Fred Andrews. Plus, ’80s queen Molly Ringwald plays Archie’s mom Mary Andrews.

Campbell has most recently been seen in season 4 and 5 of Netflix’s House of Cards as political strategist and right hand woman to Claire Underwood (Robin Wright), LeAnn Harvey. It is easy to see a woman formidable enough to stand up to Washington politicians and a serial killer as a foil for F.P. (and potentially a Serpent in her own right).

The parents on Riverdale have as many secrets as their children and get involved in as much backstabbing and drama. One of the strongest parts of the show is the impressive group of adults who round out the cast. And with Betty’s long lost brother Chic Cooper (Hart Denton) set to make his appearance in the 2018 midseason premiere, Riverdale is about to become even more of a family affair. It’s only right that the rest of the Jones family joins in on the fun, too.
