It's one and done for NBC's VR drama Reverie.

The network has canceled the rookie drama after its low-rated freshman season.

The project was a front-runner to go to series after landing Sarah Shahi, who was among the most sought-after actresses during Pilot Season 2017. NBC made the show, a Universal Television and Amblin TV production, its fourth overall new series order for the 2017-18 broadcast season.

The early buzz died down, however, and Reverie was held for summer. The drama, about a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behavior who is brought in to save ordinary people using a highly advanced VR, aired its 10 episodes in the traditionally little-watched period between late May and early August. With three days of delayed viewing, Reverie averaged a lackluster 0.6 rating in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic and 2.85 million total viewers. (Its live haul fared much worse, with a mere 0.4 in the demo and 2.1 million total viewers.)

Looking back on NBC's 2017-18 new series pickups, only three of the eight comedies and dramas returned for a second season — A.P. Bio, Good Girls and Will & Grace.

Shahi, meanwhile, continues to be an in-demand actress and field multiple offers.
