Read About The Million Ways To Die In The West Alternate Ending You Didn't See In Theaters

Seth MacFarlane’s new comedy A Million Ways To Die In The West doesn’t really feature much of a conclusion for the characters played by Neil Patrick Harris and Amanda Seyfried. After they have served their purpose in the story, they leave and are never seen from again. This wasn’t always the case with the film, however, as it’s been revealed that the Western comedy has an ending that wasn’t shown in theaters.

Those of you who have already seen A Million Ways To Die In The West know that towards the end of the film we see Neil Patrick Harris’ character, Foy, come down with a terrible case of diarrhea during a gun fight with MacFarlane’s Albert and shitting excessively into a hat. What you don’t know is that there was an extra scene featuring Harris and Seyfried that wound up getting cut. Talking about the movie’s ending at a recent press conference after being asked why the film didn’t include an ode to the stereotypical Mexican character in Westerns, the director detailed the deleted scene:

"There was a bit at the end… where Neil and Amanda, because of the shitting in the hat, he has to leave town because he’s so embarrassed. In the last scene they’re riding into this Mexican village and she’s like, ‘Why Mexico?’ and he’s like, ‘Because no one will know of my shame. We can make a fresh start here.’ And you cut to these two Mexican guys and one is like, ‘More assholes from across the border. Somebody should build a wall.’"

Instead of including this scene, MacFarlane instead opted to go with one last cameo, shooting a quick scene featuring Jamie Foxx as his character from Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. As we previously wrote about, this scene was partially included as a means of "buying back" one of the more offensive jokes in the movie: the runaway slave shooting gallery. It’s arguable that this wasn’t a great move from a storytelling perspective, especially since the scene that didn’t make the cut does sound kind of funny, but the Foxx cameo was a fun one.

So what is the future for this deleted scene? If you were to guess that it will be included on the Blu-ray, then you are absolutely right - as confirmed by MacFarlane following his description. A home video release date has not yet been announced, but it’s already available for pre-order on Amazon and will likely be in stores sometime this Fall.
