With his last film, I, Daniel Blake, director Ken Loach tackled the trials and tribulations of bureaucracy and health in the UK today. With his new one, Sorry We Missed You, he has his keen, incisive eye on the gig economy as a family struggles to make do with low-wage work that brings its own strictures. See the new trailer for the film.

Sorry We Missed You sees Loach reuniting with Blake writer Paul Laverty and the award-winning team from that film for the story of Ricky Turner (Kris Hitchen) and his family, who have been fighting an uphill struggle against debt since the 2008 financial crash. An opportunity to wrestle back some independence appears with a shiny new van and the chance to run a franchise as a self-employed delivery driver. But even that comes with its own challenges.

Also featuring Debbie Honeywood, Rhys Stone and Katie Proctor in the cast, Sorry We Missed You will be in UK cinemas on 1 November.
