Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck will have to put off their fight a little longer since the Superman VS Batman release date has been delayed.

In a related report from The Inquisitr, we know the film will feature Cavill as Superman and Affleck as Batman, and that it will be filmed in Detroit, but otherwise not much is known about the movie. In fact, the very name Batman VS Superman is just a temporary title since the official one hasn’t been announced yet.

By the casting along we can probably rule out the plot will not follow the graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns as written by Frank Miller. That 1986 comic series featured an older Batman who finds himself facing off an equally older Superman. In the end, Bruce Wayne uses his knowledge of Superman’s weakness to kryptonite — and a frickin’ awesome Bat-tank — to put some major hurt on Clark Kent. I won’t spoil it for you and tell you who wins, but I’d highly suggested renting the animated Dark Knight Returns movie that was released fairly recently.

So all we know is limited to rumors, including one that claims Ben Affleck injured his leg. This was false but it turns out he did in fact hurt his ribs while skiing. There’s also rumors that Justice League will be filmed alongside Superman VS Batman in order to save money on the budget, which at this point stands at $131 million. There’s also talk that the two plots may intertwine, with either a cliffhanger ending or an after credits sequel reveal pointing to what is to come.

So instead of speculating further I’ll tell you what we do know. The Batman VS Superman release date has been set back by months to May 6, 2016. Affleck’s injury supposed has nothing to do with this since Warner Bros officially claimed the delays was to give them “time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year.”

President of domestic distribution Dan Fellman for Warner Bros also announced what will fill the time slot previously occupied by the Superman VS Batman movie:

“We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today’s moviegoers.”

Hopefully it’s not as scary as the eyebrows of the Once Upon A Time version…
