The Pokemon Company International announced on Monday that its newest animated film, Pokemon the Movie: The Power of Us, will play at select theaters in partnership with Fathom Events this Thanksgiving.

The anime movie will follow Pikachu and Ash as they set out to rescue a seaside town from destruction, with a diverse new cast of characters in tow.

"Pokemon the Movie: The Power of Us gives fans and families an opportunity to come together in witnessing new plotlines, characters and settings unfold in the Pokemon world," senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokemon Company International J.C. Smith said in a statement released Monday.

The film debuted in Japan earlier this month under the name Pokemon the Movie: Everyone's Story.

Fathom Events collaborated with the Japanese media franchise last year in the release of Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You.

Pokemon, known for its trading cards, video games and animated television series, picked up a new fanbase, spanning across generations, after the summer 2016 release of Pokemon Go, a mobile game for iOS and Android.
