PIERS Morgan threatened to quit Good Morning Britain after they mocked how "difficult" he is to work with in a cheeky tweet.

The outspoken TV host, 53, didn't take lightly to the morning show's insult and warned he would leave if they continued to poke fun at him.

Sharing a video of the crew looking glum and holding their heads in their hands, the programme tweeted: "This is an urgent appeal on behalf of the team at Good Morning Britain.

"We have to work with Piers Morgan on a daily basis - each day it gets more difficult."

Hitting back at the cheeky clip, Piers wrote: "Relax - any more tweets like this & you won't be working with me on a daily basis."

The TV villain's response then sparked a frenzy of tweets urging GMB to send him over the edge with more tweets mocking him.

"@GMB keep tweeting. He's going to resign," one pleaded.

Another wrote: "Maybe that's what they were hoping...?" before a third chimed: "More tweets please @gmb."

The cheeky clip was the show's way of urging fans to vote for the programme at this year's National Television Awards.

Piers has also been shortlisted for the Best Presenter gong at this year's ceremony.

The telly host will go up against Ant and Dec, Strictly's Tess Daly, Love Island’s Caroline Flack, The Grand Tour’s Jeremy Clarkson and James Corden for the prize.

Piers recently admitted he isn't holding his breath about winning the award and said it will once again go to Geordie duo Ant and Dec.

He ranted last week: "Ant and Dec will win, even though Ant hasn't done a shred of work for the whole year, he'll win it."
