Petition for Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League Hits 100K Signatures

The petition for the release of Zack Snyder’s original cut of Justice League garners more than 100K signatures from fans. It’s not a secret that there were a lot of controversies that clouded the production of the movie, but nothing as big as the filmmaker switch that took place right before the reshoots commenced, when Snyder relinquished directing duties to Joss Whedon due to a family tragedy. Despite a formidable portfolio having helmed both of Marvel’s successful Avenger flicks, DC followers were worried about the film possibly deviating from Snyder’s vision, which had a clear trajectory, under Whedon’s tutelage.


Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. Justice League, despite having moments of brilliance, felt disjointed. Oftentimes, it looks like it is two different movies clashing for attention. If there’s anything we learn from this, Whedon’s and Snyder’s style of moviemaking just do not blend at all, leaving us with an end product that had great potential but was not fully realized. It’s a shame because all the right elements were working pretty well — most especially the cast, it’s only how they were tied together where its most glaring problem start to set in.


We might never know what really went down behind closed doors in Warner Bros., nevertheless, fans are pushing for the release of Snyder’s original cut from the movie. The Change.org petition posted by Roberto Mata from Puerto Rico, which only started last weekend, already has over 110K supporters and it continues to grow as more people come out and finally check out the film this Thanksgiving holiday. In conjunction with that, two Twitter users claiming to have knowledge about project say that Snyder’s Justice League cut isn’t actually incomplete as what we have been led to believe. Instead, it is actually finished including VFX and a score from original composer Junkie XL, who was replaced by Danny Elfman. Check out the tweets below:


While the sources of information are hardly confirmation, one does not need rocket science to realize that there were a lot of scenes left on the cutting room floor during post-production for Justice League. Even the cast openly talked about how certain character bits were chopped off, either because of Warner Bros.’ mandate that the movie’s runtime be under two hours or other factors. Given that most of the bits that did not end up in the film were included in earlier trailers of the movie, it’s safe to say that a bulk of those is from Snyder’s footage. Additionally, Henry Cavill’s poorly CGI-removed mustache is more or less a great indication as to which scenes were from the early days of principal photography and which ones are from the Whedon-overlooked reshoots.


Adding to Warner Bros.’ woes is the fact that Justice League is not really doing as well in terms of box office results as their other DC properties despite arguably receiving kinder reviews compared to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Pixar’s latest offering, Coco has even topped the ensemble flick during Wednesday box office and it seems like it will also be the case moving towards the holiday weekend.
