Peacemaker's writer/director James Gunn suggests Flamin' Hot Cheetos as the snack to eat while watching his DC show when it debuts this week. Following his work on Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn has become the go-to mastermind for dishing out oddball comic book content. Last year's The Suicide Squad unleashed DC characters like Polka-Dot Man, King Shark, and John Cena's "douchey Captain America," Christopher Smith/Peacemaker—who now gets his own streaming series on HBO Max.

When audiences last saw Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad, he was seemingly shot dead by Bloodsport before being squashed by the collapsing Jotunheim reactor. The film's credits scene revealed Peacemaker did indeed survive the events on Corto Maltese and is needed to help "save the f—king world." In Peacemaker, the eponymous vigilante/villain is joined by Steve Agee (as prison warden John Economos) and Jennifer Holland (as Amanda Waller's aide Emilia Harcourt) alongside DCEU newcomers Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick as Peacemaker's father, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, and Nhut Le as Judo Master.

With Peacemaker's first three episodes set to drop this Wednesday, a fan recently tweeted at Gunn a tweet asking what snacks one should indulge in while binging the series. Gunn, who often engages with fans on social media, replied by tweeting a photo of a bag of Crunchy Flamin' Hot Cheetos. It's a wonder why he didn't suggest empanadas. Check it out below:

Peacemaker is written and mostly directed by Gunn, who recognized his titular character's potential from the jump. As an oxymoronic character, Peacemaker cherishes peace with all his heart and doesn't care how many men, women, and children he has to kill to get it. Suffice to say, the series' will be chaotic and riddled with off-the-wall comedy touches. Peacemaker, which is set to be more grounded than The Suicide Squad, may just be the perfect vehicle for Gunn's signature brand of irreverence. If it proves a hit, it could mark the beginning of the DCEU's MCU-esque success on streaming.

Hopefully, Peacemaker is like a bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos—a fiery addition to an already successful formula. The Suicide Squad didn't do well at the box office, but the film was a hit with fans and critics. It managed to make audiences laugh while developing the humanity of each character. Peacemaker aims to flesh out its anti-hero even further when it premieres on January 13, 2022.
