Halloween Kills, Blumhouse's sequel to their 2018 Halloween reboot, is set to revisit a critical location from 1981's original sequel Halloween II. While the callback will likely be appreciated by diehard fans of the slasher franchise, it's also likely to confuse quite a few people. After all, one of the main marketing points of the 2018 film was that it retconned all prior sequels to director John Carpenter's 1978 original classic. This includes Halloween II, the film that actually introduced the infamous, now also retconned, plot point that Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was Michael Myers' sister.

Halloween (2018) was of course a massive hit, and gave many horror fans hope for a revival of more iconic slasher series. So far the only other one confirmed for a comeback is Candyman, but either way, Michael Myers is set to claim victims in at least two more sequels, Halloween Kills in 2020 and Halloween Ends in 2021. They will follow the events of the 2018 film, which left Laurie and most of her family alive, while trapping Michael in a seemingly inescapable situation. Then again, one can't kill The Boogeyman.

While the actual plot of Halloween Kills remains mysterious, it's clear lots more tie-ins to the original are coming, with child characters like Tommy Doyle (now played by Anthony Michael Hall) and Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards) set to return as adults. Now, a new set photo shared on Twitter by @jordana_LaQueen reveals that Halloween Kills is poised to return to a major location from Halloween's cinematic history: Haddonfield Memorial Hospital.

Longtime Halloween fans will recall that the bulk of 1981's Halloween II took place inside the walls of Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, after Laurie was transported there following her near-death experience at the hands of Michael. Inexplicably, the hulking killer spent most of the running time brutally butchering random doctors and nurses inside the oddly sparsely populated hospital, despite the fact that Laurie was drugged up and vulnerable. By that time though, the Friday the 13th movies had driven up audiences' blood lust, necessitating a higher body count.

It's unclear if Halloween Kills, which mercifully did not become the third film to be titled Halloween II, will retain the same setup of the 1981 sequel, which picks up the story mere moments after the prior entry. If it does, Halloween Kills may end up closer to the Halloween sequel it's retconning than anyone ever expected. However, it's doubtful Halloween Ends will focus on masks that turns kids' faces into a mass of snakes and bugs, even if Season of the Witch star Tom Atkins is open to returning.
