With only a few months before we see Pacific Rim Uprising , a Japanese poster of the main Jaeger has been posted on social media to hype up the much-anticipated sequel. It shows some stylish artwork of the latest US Mecha, and it confirms that the creatures from the Anteverse – the homeworld of the Kaiju – will be facing some real-life anime resistance.

The sequel takes place 10 years after the climactic battle to close the inter-dimensional breach in Pacific Rim. During that fight, the US Jaeger Gipsy Danger was sacrificed to enable victory, although her pilots – Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) – managed to survive intact. Sure the Kaiju will return, humanity has wisely used the time to upgrade the Jaegers. While Gipsy Danger was an aging Mark-3 American model, the new Jaegers are all greatly enhanced with new weaponry. The flagship Mecha for the US is Gipsy Avenger, a Mark VI model that proudly bears the namesake of its predecessor and is due to play a major part in the new war with the Kaiju.

So it’s not a great surprise to see Gipsy Avenger as the subject of a cool new poster released via the Pacific Rim Uprising Japanese Twitter. It shows the Jaeger in close-up profile, and provides a dynamic bit of sci-fi imagery. You can check out the poster below:

While it doesn’t exactly reveal anything more about the giant robot, it is nevertheless a nice graphic that seems to emphasize the slide towards real-life anime as suggested by the action-packed Pacific Rim Uprising trailer . Gipsy Avenger is piloted by the main protagonists Jake Pentecost (John Boyega) and Nate Lambert (Scott Eastwood).

This new model has plenty of weapons, and previous promos revealed that the cockpit tech is much more advanced with a new offensive gadget called a ‘Gravity Sling’ . Jake is of course the son of General Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), who gave his life heroically in the first film. Boyega has gone on record to say that Jake is actually nothing like his father at the start of the story and can be considered to be an ‘absolute crook’ . The film also features Charlie Day as Dr. Newt Geiszler, Burn Gorman as Dr. Hermann Gottlieb, as well as Kikuchi returning as Mako Mori.

Previous footage has included Jaeger vs. Jaeger fights, and unsettling scenes of massive new Kaiju apparently being able to regenerate from fatal injuries. The plot as it exists now is said to be very different to Guillermo del Toro’s original idea for the sequel, which would have seen San Francisco totally destroyed in the climax.

With Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) at the helm, the story now seems focused on building some of the mythology and ramping up some of the confrontations. Hopefully the whole film can live up to the promise and scenes of city-bashing carnage that we’ve seen so far, and we’re sure we’ll be seeing some further imagery like this Japanese poster in the weeks to come. We’ll bring you further updates and promos from Pacific Rim Uprising as we get them
