Oscars: Bosnia and Herzegovina Selects 'Never Leave Me' for Foreign-Language Category
Aida Begic's film tells the painful story of three Syrian orphans and refugees struggling to find inner peace.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has selected Never Leave Me, the latest film by multi-award winning director Aida Begic, as its submission in the best foreign-language film for the Oscars.
The film, which premiered last year at the Antalya Film Festival and also screened this summer at the Sarajevo Film Festival, tells the story of three Syrian orphans who are living in a refugee camp in Turkey.
A story of pain and the struggle to find inner peace, Never Leave Me was shot on location in Turkey in genuine refugee camps.
Produced by Film House Sarajevo, the film was due to be released in Bosnia today.
Bosnia and Herzegovina first submitted a film for the Oscars in 1994 and has made annual submissions for the past 15 years. Director Danis Tanovic won best foreign-language picture in 2001 for No Man's Land, and also made it to the January shortlist in 2013 with An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker.
