Fans of the original “MacGyver” may see a familiar face on CBS’ reboot this fall.

Executive producer Peter Lenkov said Thursday that the original star Richard Dean Anderson is in talks to appear on the new series.

“We’re hoping to get him on the show,” Lenkov revealed at the CBS Comic-Con panel. “That’s our plan.” He then credited fellow EP James Wan’s love for the original series for getting the reboot off the ground, and said that having Anderson on would be a way of honoring the show’s legacy. “We’re hoping to have him come on the show and be a part of this incarnation as well. We’re reaching out to him. We’re hoping it happens.”

The creative team also said that the new series will keep the spirit of the original — and in doing so will stand out from the antihero-filled current state if television.

“MacGyver in his first incarnation was a hero who was unique to the TV landscape,” one who is upbeat, Lenkov said. “I think if you look at the landscape, there’s a void for that kind of hero.”

Wan added, “MacGyver in a lot of ways is a very positive kind of character, and he only resorts to violence when he has to.”

Lucas Till, who stars as the titular special agent in the new “MacGyver,” added that there’s one key element from the original series he hopes to see repeated in the new.

“He had a new woman every episode, that’s something I would like to have,” Till said.

CBS picked up the pilot for the “MacGyver” in October, but discarded it when going to series. The network ordered a new version of the show, adding Peter Lenkov as executive producer and showrunner. James Wan, the filmmaker behind “The Conjuring” and an executive producer on the show, signed on in June to direct a new premiere episode.

Earlier this week, CBS added “A.P.B.” creator David Slack as co-executive producer, part of a new overall deal between the “Person of Interest” veteran and CBS Television Studios.
